Clerks

There were many different types of clerks, or perhaps just men who referred to their jobs as clerks. For that reason, I have done this page somewhat differently then the others. Under each county division, there is a listing of the various clerks. You can find out who did which type of clerking in that county by clicking on the job description link. Not all job descriptions will have persons listed if they weren't in the county. Unfortunately, some men simply stated that they were clerks and gave no clue as to the type, so they are just bulked together as "store clerks". The only exception I have made is in the area of the clerks who served in the public offices; those will be found under "County Officials". Also, the few Railroad Clerks that there are will be found in the section of Railroad Workers.
