I take my pen in hand to write a few lines to let you no how I am getting along  I am well and harty as ever and hope these few lines may find you in good helth  we have not ben any verry hard bettels yet  we are camping now about 2 miles from the citty but we expect to move this evening closter to the citty  we herd that general lyons of Misura was killed but hoped it is not so...there is tree hear  we have a very nice camp hear plenty of water but not very good   there is about to hundred thousand soldiers camping around hear on the potomiic river  Thursday the 15  We have once more got our tents stretched in and new camp 1 mile from the citty  this is a nice camp rolling and shady  I received a letter yesterday from Chet Landrum dated the July the 6 the only letter I have got for 5 or 6 weeks  I do not no how long we will stay hear  the weather is very cool here it is the hillyest cuntry you ever saw and I think very healthy  General lions we hear is ded for certan  they had a very hard battel  I guess but our boys gained the way  two or three of their generals was kild and won or to colonels taking prisners  the most of there bagage destroyed  I must bring my letter to as close  haven time to rite nothing to rite on but a sugar box and not much to rite any how  I will like to see you all some day  I wood like to no what you are all doing and how you are geting along  Give my best  respects and love to all the frends  so no more at present but right soon direct to Washington Citty District of Columbia Indiana 19 Reg in care of Capt.
