I'm sending a few pictures of Big Rock Cemetery, just to show you how bad it is. If you look really close on the bottom picture, you can see a stone. There are lots of stones still standing, and I'm sure we never found all of them under all of that goldenrod. Those plants were humongous! There was something in there that really hurt when you got stuck with it too. This place is unreal to get to. I thought I was gonna die before I got to the top of this place! I can only imagine trying to drag a coffin up to the top. From what I could tell, my husband's gr-gr-grandpa was the last to be buried here in 1925. Probably had to stop when people didn't have horses around to drag them up there! I'm sure the families that are buried there are all related somehow, but haven't got it all figured out. The Woods seem to be the earliest, and I'm not sure how they fit in. The stone with Hannah Wood is really pretty old. I wasn't smart enough to move the plants out of the way better when I took the picture, but she died in the 1830's. Many of the stones were worn so much you couldn't read them and were made from river rock. It was an interesting place, and felt very pioneer-like.
