CLOVERDALE POSTMASTERS

1836-1939

 

The establishment of the Cloverdale post office was made by Andrew Jackson on February 11, 1836. The first post office was in the Mose Nelson store in the year 1836 and William L. Hart was appointed the first postmaster.

Not until 3 years later was the actual town of Cloverdale laid out. The rural route service was established in 1901 with Mr. H. C. Hadden as the first carrier.

In the year 1855, two words that had been carried by the post office there; Clover and Dale were then combined to Cloverdale.
