Confectioners & Candy Makers
This page updated November 11, 2005
Confectioners were creators of fancy sweet dishes and treats. Although the ancestors did the majority of pie/cake baking on their own, the confectioners offered a variety of items unable to be duplicated in the home. There were not many in the early county days, but the few there were centralized around the larger towns. I would guess that the bakers also made some form of sweet items for sale, but the difference between the baker who made rolls and breads and the confectioners was something like the difference in a "cook" and a master chef.
Candy makers of course made candy. I don't imagine there was much extra money for these sweet treats, as a matter of fact I found just one candy maker in the three county area.
