When Ferries are mentioned as a mode of transportation, they are not the ferrys we are accustomed to or thinking of as boats. Ferries were long pieces of wooden platforms that were attached to ropes extending from one side of a waterway to the other. The Ferry Operator pulled the rope or used long poles to propel the wagons/persons across.
