Although people didn't go visiting as much as they did today and when they did go it was normally a much shorter distance allowing for a return trip home..the Hotels and Boarding Houses were still much in use. Traveling Salesmen (drummers) or business men did utilize them a lot. Boarding houses were sometimes where persons lived when they had nowhere else to go, some of them remaining there for years. Many times these boarding houses were also in the home of the proprietors.
