Livery Stables
This page updated November 3, 2005
Livery Owners were the keepers of the horses in towns, some of these were horses of persons coming to town for the day and others were horses for hire. Although a rarity today, in the days of horses and buggies these men were in high demand..Liveries were also a popular place with the young men wishing to hire a horse/buggy
to take a young lady courting in. Most liveries kept a certain number of buggies for hire including one that was deemed the "coffin buggy" as it was equipped to carry the coffin from the church to the burial grounds. Another one was also used mainly to transport the flowers from the church to the burial grounds.
