A few days ago a researcher, Jeff Hearns contacted me regarding an interesting genealogical find that he and his wife had made. They had found what apparently was the letter received by a young woman in February of 1912. The letter is from the School Superintendent of Morgan County W.D. Curtis-- The letter was addressed to:
Lousa Grouns RR#2 Quincy Indiana
I have included this entry for both the Morgan and Owen County School pages.
This item is being included as Jeff Hearns and his wife simply wish to find any possible descendants of this woman so that this memorabilia can be sent to them. If you are a descendant please contact Jeff Hearns
A few items for background purposes are: Although the letter was addressed to a Quincy Rural Route, this area wasn't always simply the Quincy area, it extended as far as just north of Wilbur on Highway 42 in the Morgan County area as well as north of Quincy.
The GROUNS surname was normally GROUNDS or GROUND and they were commonly known to reside in the Ashland or Ray Township areas of Morgan County. This would make the application to the Morgan County schools more logical.
After much searching I have not located the girl or family in the census records of the time or any other records, she may have simply been visiting. Please look at your databases and see if you can claim this wonderful jewel of research.
