"Mahorney"
DR. MAHORNEY DIED
FATALLY SHOT BY WIFE
Owen County (Indiana) Democrat, March 24, 1892, p. 1.
Submitted by Randi Richardson
Tuesday morning Dr. Mahorney of Arney was accidentally and fatally shot by
his wife who was examining a revolver. It was a thirty-two self-acting gun,
and Mrs. Mahorney, not understanding it, pulled the deadly weapon off, the
ball taking effect about one inch to the right and two inches below the
right nipple. Drs. Coble and Hickam of Spencer and Dr. Mininch of
Worthington were immediately telegrammed (sic) for. They ascertained by
probing that the ball had ranged downward on outer surface of the ribs for a
few inches, then it took an inward and downward course probably cutting the
lower lobe of the right lung and entering the abdominal cavity. He died at
one o'clock Wednesday morning.
