MANNAN CEMETERY VISIT
ASHLAND TOWNSHIP, MORGAN COUNTY

This is one of the most beautifully kept cemeteries I know of. About 95% of the persons buried here are related to me in one form or another . The land for the Mannan cemetery was donated by William Mannan upon the death of his grandchild. There is an interesting story regarding just why there are two Mannan cemeteries, one in Morgan county and one in Owen county.
William had a brother named Robert and they had various family differences; one brother created the cemetery on the Morgan county side and the other brother, Robert was buried there. Now since there were bad feelings in the Mannan family, later on during the night after the burial, other family members removed Robert from the Morgan county side and buried him on the other side of the road outside the original cemetery. It later became the part of the Mannan Cemetery located in Owen County.

My great grandfather; at one time he worked for Mr. Mannan tilling the same land on which he was later buried.
MARY ELIZABETH (JONES) LOCKHART

Wife of the above mentioned Charles. Mary was the daughter of Alonzo and Dovie (Herbert) Jones.

This William C was the son of the man who founded the cemetery.
MARGARET ELLEN (CARTER) MANNAN 1833-1925
Margaret was the daughter of John and Eliza (Nutterfield) Carter and the wife of William C. Mannan.
