Born on September 14, 1866 and departed this life January 6, 1919. Age fifty-two
Years, three months and twenty three days.
Mollie as we all called her, grew to womanhood I nthe same community in which
She died and attended church and Sunday school at Salem at which place she
Became a member at age nineteen.
On October 4, 1883 she was united in marriage to Dan McCullough and to this
Union was born three children. The oldest a daughter dying in infancy, Jerry and
Fred still living.
During her married life she lived about twenty years in the neighborhood near
Quincy at which place she made many friends and was always ready to help where
It was in her power to do so. They moved from that neighborhood to their present
Home about twelve years ago. And here she could again associate with relatives
And friends and attend church at Salem as she had done in her girlhood days. But
Four years ago on November 7th she was stricken with paralysis and suffered
Almost untold death but regained her strength to some extent but on September
12th of the next year it came on her again even worse then the first time and from
this she rallied again and was able to go about her home and visit some among her
relatives and neighbors, but last January 7th she was stricken down again and
became unable to help herself but very little and even her speech was almost taken
away from her.
All the loving hands could do was done for her to help her bear her suffering which
At times was very great then at other times she seemed not to suffer in the least. It
Was very hard for her when the youngest son, Fred, was called into the service of
His country and had to leave her last August, but who has received his discharge and
Arrived home before his mother passed away.
Mollie bore her suffering and affliction with great patience and often said that she
Was ready to die when the time should come. On January 2nd came the fatal stroke
That eventually carried her away.

Jerry McCullough, 54, Found Dead in Corn Crib
Jerry McCullough, 54, a farmer of Wayne township, was found dead Wednesday
evening, May 21, in a corn crib at his home four miles south of Quincy. He was
found by his brother, Fred, about 8:15 pm. His death was apparently due to a heart
attack to which he had been subject for some time.
According to the stories of Fred McCullough and Nick Smith, as told to Coroner
James Rowland, Jerry had worked in his grden at the house in the forenoon. After
Dinner he left about 1 o'clock intending to re-plant several hills of corn that had
Failed to come up. He took a hoe and some seed corn with him.
When he failed to come in about 6 pm for supper, his wife, Lula searched for him
About the corn field and barn and had gone into an adjoining corn crib to get corn
For the chickens. Uneasy about his absence, she went to the home of his brother,
Fred, and asked help in the search. Nick Smith, Harley Edwards, Joe Buskirk and
Horace Asher were called. Mrs. McCullough started back home, but collapsed at
The road side and Fred McCullough and Nick Smith carried her to Fred's home and
A Gosport doctor was called. She was unconscious till 1 am Thursday.
In the meantime, the neighbors searched over the cornfield. They found the hoe at the
Corner of a fence leading to the barn, where they proceeded to search further. Fred
Went into the barn and when he opened an empty crib door, found his brother lying
On the floor.
As nearly as could be surmised, he had felt an attack coming on and rather than worry
His wife, had gone into the barn, an eighth of a mile from the house. He had gone into
The inside crib, closed the door and placed a feed sack on the floor, arranged a make-
Shift pillow of chaff and had laid down. There he had died.
Fred called the others, and then the doctor, still at Fred's home. He pronounced him
Dead. The coroner was then called. It was thought that he had been dead for several
Hours, possibly having died shortly after he left the house. There was a slight bruise
On the left temple and cheek, as though he might have staggered sidewise against a
Tree, post or door casing. The body was removed by Undertaker Joe Whitaker.
Coroner Rowland, and a clerk returned to the McCullough home Thursday morning
To again look over the scene in an effort to find additional evidence. Statements were
Secured from Fred McCullough and Nick Smith.
Jerry was the son of Daniel and Molly McCullough and was born on July 24, 1887 in
Harrison township. His is survived by the widow, a son and the brother, Fred.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Whitaker's Funeral Home, Gosport, in
Charge of Rev. Guy Johnson and interment was made in Little Mount Cemetery.

William C. McCullough was born near Spencer, Owen county, IN on October 16
1840 and departed this life April 15, 1917 aged 76 years, 5months and 29 days.
He was married to Elinor J. Hart August 5, 1865. To this union were born nine
children, Alice, Harry, Metta, Nellie, Carrie, Effie, Maude, and Myrtle, one babe
having died in infancy; also Alice, Metta, Nellie, and Carried having preceded him
to the great beyond. He leaves behind to mourn him his beloved wife, one son,
E.H. McCullough of Quincy, Ind and three daughters; Mrs. Effie Holmes of
Patricksburg, Mrs. Maude Twomey of Bloomington who was unable to be present,
and Mrs. Myrtle Twomey of Quincy; also two grandchildren and fifteen great
grandchildren, one half brother, Dan McCullough and one half sister, Mrs Adda
Evans, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
He heeded his country's call and in the year of 1861 enlisted in the great civil war
fought valiantly for his home and country, during which time he was engaged in
the memorable battle of Gettysburg. His long engagement as a soldier proved his
bravery and he was always to be found at his post of duty. He was honorably dis-
charged after having faithfully served three years and nine months.
He had been a constant sufferer for several years, his last illness continuing about
three weeks and was of intense suffering, which he bore with great patience and
always trying to smile and speak a word of cheer to those who so lovingly
administered to him, not wishing to cause any one any trouble. He was a kind and
affectionate husband and father, always wanting to have his children and grand-
children in his home with him. His greatest sorrow was that his daughter, Maude
was unable to be with him at the last, but the loving message he left her was "Tell
Maude I wanted to live till she could come and see me, but if I must go I am ready"
Such a blessed message fills our hearts to overflowing. He never united with any
church, but was always a cheerful giver to any good cause.
He talked to different members of his family, telling them that he had learned to
pray and wanted them to pray, and a few days later he told them he was happy as
an angel and living things were bright now. When the summons came, he was
ready and willing to go, and this morning is clasping hands with dear ones on the
other shore.
