LEWIS McGILL

LEWIS McGILL, 62 years old, all his life a resident of this county, was instantly killed Saturday evening about 5:30 at Martinsville when he fell under a train from which he was alighting. The head was severed and the body otherwise mangled. Mr. McGill was on his way to visit his sister, a Mrs. Schuler in Martinsville. His son, Alva, was in the city at the time and was soon at the scene of the accident. Mr. McGill's wife died some fifteen months ago and he had made his home here with his daughter, Mrs. M. E. McNaught, occasionally going to Martinsville to see his sister who is taking treatment there. Saturday afternoon he bought a round trip ticket to Martinsville. From all that can be learned it appears that he had fell ------ ------ ---- did not hear the station called. He roused as the train started and in jumping off, supposely he struck a box car on a siding which threw him under the passenger train.
