Pork packing was a major business in the Owen County area at one time. The packing plant in Gosport was said to be the finest in the state. In one Indiana history book, it is stated that when creating the Indiana State Seal consideration was given to using a hog to signify the greatness of Indiana pork packers..fortunately the idea was voted down.
