I don't know what paper these articles were in, but can only assume it to be the Gosport Reporter.

Our little city was thrown into intense excitement on Tuesday morning, February 24, '85 by the announcement that Wm.A. Montgomery Sr., lawyer and banker had committed suicide by hanging. He had been in ill health for sometime, but no one can account for this rash act. His physician had seen him that morning and pronounced him better, but it seems that during a temporary aberation of the mind, he went into his barn, which is near the house, and procuring a rope hung himself. He was discovered shortly after the act, but not in time to save his life. His sad death has cast a shadow over his family and the entire community being an estimable and prominent citizen. His remains were interred in the Gosport cemetery Wednesday, the Masons conducting the ceremonies.
