SAMARIA CEMETERY VISIT

ASHLAND TOWNSHIP

MORGAN COUNTY

OCTOBER 12, 2003

This cemetery is in just really exceptional condition. Of course it does sit in the churchyard of a still functioning church, so that could account for it.

Photos taken here were:

ALBERT CARTER 1897-1991

LORA BLOUCHER 1900-1963

This grave is just beautifully decorated and shows signs that family has visited it recently. Albert was the brother of my grandfather Herschel Carter. This grave is on the right side of the cemetery, directly behind the church. Albert was a member of the Samaria church since 1913 and an ordained deacon for many years. Lora was the first wife of Albert and her parents and some siblings are buried next to them.

FLOY CARTER 1918-1942

Floy was the first wife of the above mentioned Herschel Carter. She was my grandmother and died in childbirth at the age of 24. Along with Floy are buried the child who died at birth as well as another child who had died previously of cribdeath. They lay beside her right side although they are not mentioned on the stone they are; Robert Allen directly to her right and then Judith Ann. They died in 1941 and 1942 respectively. Floy was the daughter of Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Lockhart. Both she and Herschel were members of the church; walking 2 miles to attend on Sundays. Her grave is on the far left side of the cemetery towards the back.

SYLVAN SHULER 1906-1976

RUBY SHULER 1908-1995

This grave lies behind the church and it a quite substantial one in size. Ruby was the daughter of Homer Pottorff and Alice Knoy. She was also a school teacher for my father in grade school at Lopossa. A teacher he remembers to this day.
