CIVIL WAR ENGAGEMENT POSTER

The information comes from a poster that was sold to raise money for a Civil War Monument.

It includes the engagements of the man purchasing the poster.

(Commemorative poster dated) August 10, 1897


1.Sep 16, 1863: Nicholasville, KY. Joined Gen O. B. Willax Command.

2. Sep 24, 1863: moved to Cumberland Gap via Crab Orchard, Mt. Vernon, London and Barboursville, KY, thence south thru Tazwell; crossing the Clinch River, Clinch mountains, Holton River.

3. Oct 10, 1863: fought enemy at Blue Springs; moved to Greenville; stayed until Nov 6, 1863. Marched to Bull Gap; engaged and fortified mountain passes.


4. Later on duty in mountains of east Tennessee.  

A further note on the poster states: "This design for a National Monument was Dedicated to Grand Army of the Republic and United States by the Easel Monument Association of Chicago, Illinois and by them will be erected in the center of the Union Soldiers and Sailors National Park when the location of said Park shall have been determined by the sale of this souvenier"
