SOLDIER OF 1812 Owen Leader- August 25, 1938 At the Medaris reunion Sunday, it was voted that the grandchildren of James D. Medaris, who was a soldier in the war of 1812, so honor him by placing his name in the pavilion to be built in the cemetery. The money $2.50, was promptly made up and turned over to the committee by Mrs. Rice. The following is a brief history. James Davis Medaris enlisted in Guilford County, North Carolina was discharged in February 1815. He was a private under Captain McQuistains. March 9, 1871 when at the age of 81 years he applied for a pension which was soon granted. He died at his home in Montgomery township, Owen County, Indiana, February 8, 1878. He is buried at Cuba.
