Stave Makers/Rivers
This page updated November 11, 2005
Staves were any narrow strip of wood or metal placed side by side to form a lining or covering for a vessel such as a barrel. Stave makers were of course the men who worked at making these and the rivers were the men who worked at placing or putting them onto the vessels. As the term to cull infers to sort out the undesirable, it would be my guess that the stave culler would be a man who worked in the capacity of sorting out staves that were not usable.
