MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR-SUPPOSED MURDER AND ROBBERY OF TIN PEDDLER

Indianapolis Sentinel February 4, 1879

Spencer, Indiana, February 3--

A very mysterious affair has just been reported here today.
According to the best information obtainable the case is as
follows:
On last Friday morning the body of a man supposed to be that
of George H. Crawford, a rag buyer and tin peddler, was found
near the public road in this county, near the Monroe county
line. The body was terribly bruised and as the man's pocketbook
was gone, it is supposed that he was murdered and robbed of his
team and what money he had. No arrests have yet been made.
