STEPS IN FRONT OF CAR AND DIES
Edward Thacker is Instantly Killed in Accident Near Martinsville

Martinsville, Ind. Dec 26 - -mEdward Thacker, who lived on a farm north of Martinsville, was early today struck and instantly killed by an interurban car on the Indianapolis and Martinsville devision of the T. H., I. & E. Traction road. The accident occured near Hendricks farm crossing. Thacker was seen by the motorman, David Lancaster, some seven or eight hundred feet ahead coming in the direction of the car. He sounded the wistle and Thacker, hearing it, stepped aside. As the car approached the man stepped on the ties as though in confusion. The motorman saw the car would strike him, but immediately applied the brakes. Thacker was struck in the left breast and was knocked off the track about twenty feet. On examination it was found that his collar bone and three or four ribs were broken. He died instantly. Thacker was about 37 years of age and is survived by a widow and three children .

Charles E "Chub" Thatcher, 84, resident of Worthington, died Sunday November 9, 1997, at Clay County Hospital. Born September 24, 1913, in Owen County, he was the son of Floyd and Helen (Scott) Thatcher. He was a businessman of Thatcher's RV Sales in Clay County for 29 years. He was the manager of McCormick's Creek State Park stables for eight years. Mr. Thatcher was a school bus driver for 16 years in Coal City. He attended Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Fulk) Thatcher, whom he married in 1932; a daughter and son-in-law Helen and John M. Haley of Worthington; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles "Fred" and Mary Jo Thatcher of Worthington; seven sisters, Gladys Collenbaugh of Worthington, Lillian Williams and Leona Rhoden, both of Martinsville, Doris Pillow of Indianapolis, Lois Alumbaugh of Mooresville, and Geneva Abrams and Laura Fulk, both of Indianapolis,; two brothers, Clyde Thatcher of Mooresville and Howard Thatcher of Naples, Florida; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac Thatcher and Lewis Thatcher. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday November 13 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home. The Rev. Kent Baker will officiate. Interment will be held at Pleasant Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 8-10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13 at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Clarence Lewis Thatcher, 70, Martinsville, died Wednesday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, Worthington, with calling from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday
He had been a truck driver 18 years for Overland Freight, retiring in 1972. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors ; wife Wilma Jean Allen Thatcher; son, Randall Thatcher; Daughters, Karen L. Hayden, Shirley J. Lemons, Carol E. Stout and Peggy A. Thatcher; Brothers Charles "Chub," Clyde and Howard Thatcher; sisters, Gladys Collenbaugh, Laura Fulk, Lillian Williams, Leona Rhoden, Geneva Abrams, Doris Pillow and Lois Alumbaugh; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
FLETCHER THATCHER, 67, DIES SUNDAY FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

Fletcher Thatcher, 67 years old, a native of this country, died Sunday at his home in Freedom, following an illness that dated back to last March. He was born in Owen County, June 2, 1883, a son of the late Isaac and Laura (Trent) Thatcher. During the active part of his life he was engaged in farming. Survivors include the bereaved wife, Mrs. Pearl Thatcher; and the following eight children: Mrs. Beatrice White, of Coal City; Mrs. Alma Minnick, of Granada, Mississippi; Mrs. Mary Dyar, Spencer; Claude Thatcher, Freedom; Everett Thatcher, Freedom; Mrs. Freda Figg, Worthington; and Junior Thatcher,also of Freedom. One son, Robert, preceded him in death. He also leaves three brothers and one sister. Following death the body was brought to the West & Son Funeral Home where final arrangements were made.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Pleasant Bethel Church, and interment was made in the Pleasant Bethel Cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock (CST) Sunday afternoon at the Pleasant Bethel Church for Floyd Everett Thatcher who died Thursday at his residence in the Pleasant Bethel Community. Rev. Keith Wilson will officiate and burial will be in the Pleasant Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call at the family residence at any time. Mr. Thatcher was born May 26, 1887, in Owen county, a son of Isaac M. and Laura Trent Thatcher. He was a farmer and had been ill for three weeks. Mr. Thatcher was married June 15, 1908 to Helen Scott who survives. Other survivors include twelve children Mrs. Gladys Collenbaugh, Worthington, Isaac Thatcher, Worthington, Charles Thatcher, Worthington, Mrs. Laura Fulk, Indianapolis, Mrs. Lillian Williams, Martinsville, Mrs. Leona Rhoden, Elkhart, Lewis Thatcher, Indianapolis, Mrs. Geneva Abrams, Indianapolis, Mrs. Doris Pillow, Indianapolis, Clyde Thatcher, US Navy, Mrs. Lois Alumbaugh, Indianapolis, and Howard Thatcher of Worthington. Thirty two grandchildren, three great grandchildren one sister, Mrs. Grace Sandford, Wayne, Mich., two brothers, Clarence of Indianapolis and Fred of Winnebago, Minn., also survive.

Helen B. Thatcher, 91, of Freedom, died Thursday at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenwood. Born Oct 13, 1892, in Freedom, she was the daughter of john and Minnie (corium) Scott. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Freedom. Survivors include four sons, Charles Thatcher of Worthington, C. Louis Thatcher of Martinsville, Clyde Thatcher of Mooresville and Howard Thatcher of Greenwood; seven daughters, Mrs. Gladys Collenbaugh of Worthington, Mrs. Laura B. Fulk of Indianapolis, Mrs. Lillian Williams of Martinsville, Mrs. Leona Rhoden of Martinsville, Mrs. Geneva Abrams of Greenfield, Mrs. Doris Pillow of Indianapolis and Mrs. Lois Alumbaugh of Mooresville; two brothers, John W. Scott of Lake Placid Fla., and Herbert Scott of Evansville; sister Mrs. Dorothy Lincicome of Unionville; 49 grandchildren, 73 Great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Thatcher, and one son Isaac N. Thatcher. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington. Burial will be in Pleasant Bethel Cemetery near Freedom. Friends may call 2-9 p.m. Sunday.

Isaac Thatcher, 69, of Worthington, died Friday morning,February 20, at his home. He was born October 22, 1911 in Owen County the son of Floyd and Helen Scott Thatcher. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Fulk Thatcher. Other survivors are his mother, Helen Thatcher of Greenwood; daughters, June Shouse of Mooresville, Judy Cooper of Brazil,Nelda Wells of Spencer, Phyllis Rogers of Bloomington, Janet Terrell and Linda Richardson, both of Worthington; sons,Michael, Ronald and Clifford, all of Worthington. Brothers,Charles of Center Point, Clarence of Martinsville, Clyde of Mooresville, and Howard of Greenwood; sisters, Gladys Collenbaugh of Worthington, Laura Fulk and Doris Pillow, both of Indianapolis, Lillian Williams and Leona Rhoden, both of Martinsville, Geneva Abrams of Fortville, and Lois Alumbaugh of Mooresville; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, at the Welch and Cornett Worthington Chapel with the Rev. Don Linsicomb officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Bethel Cemetery in Arney.

Isaac M. Thatcher, 87, died Dec. 23 at the home of his daughter,Mrs. Grace Sanford at Plymouth, Ind. Funeral rites were held Sunday at Pleasant Bethel. He was born in Jefferson township June 26, 1856, a son of Mitchell and Rhoda Thatcher. Survivors include the following children: Fletcher of near Freedom; Floyd of near Worthington; Fred of Minn.; Clarence of Mich.; and Mrs. Grace Sanford of Plymouth.
LAURA E. (TRENT) THATCHER

Laura E. Trent, daughter of David S. and Elizabeth J. Trent, was born in Jefferson township, Owen Co., Ind., December 13, 1864,and departed this life April 6, 1917; age 52 years, three months and 23 days. She was united in marriage to Isaac Thatcher September 18, 1879. To this union six children were born, Jennie, Fletcher, Floyd, Fred, Clarence and Grace, all of whom, with the husband, four sisters--Nora, Clara, Lillie, and Elizabeth--and four brothers--Wilson, Joe, L. D. and Emmett--survive. Two brothers, James and George, died in infancy. Her mother died about twenty-five years ago and her father in January, 1917. She was an affectionate companion, a loving mother, ready at all times to sacrifice for her loved ones. She was converted and joined the Methodist Protestant church in 1882, under Bro. Robinson. Her life to the last was in accordance with her Savior, she so dearly loved. It was the desire of her life to so live that when the summons came to join that innumerable caravan, which moves to that mysterious realm above, where each shall take his chamber, in the silent halls of death. Go, thou, not like the quarry slave at night, scourged to his dungeon, but sustained with an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave, like one who wraps the draperies of his couch about him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.---
