Tile Factory and Mill Workers This page updated August 29, 2005 The tile factories utilized the shale that was mined locally. The tiles that were fired in the kilns were used for a variety of purposes chief among these being for drains and ditching. One major factory operated in Brooklyn of Morgan County from about the year 1905. This plant was operated for 57 years by the Powell family. Although not many persons are listed below as having this occupation, at one time the demand was almost more then could be met.
