DEATH -14 April 1957 Hammond Times HOOSIER GI in DEATH PLUNGE San Francisco (AP) -- An Indiana soldier plunged to his death Saturday from the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge. He fell onto the railroad tracks opposite Pier 26 at the foot of Steuart Street.The soldier was identified by the coroner's office as M. Sgt. KIAH WAMPLER, 55, of Gosport, Ind. He had been stationed at Oakland Army Terminal. A note indicated he had been depressed over illness. Highway Patrolman Lee Council said he saw Wampler's east bound automobile stop suddenly.
