You know, when we go to visit our grandparents or elderly parents; in addition to the joy of the gathering, we always like to find them in good health and pleasant surroundings. Should we happen to visit them in a nursing home and find that they are not receiving proper care or god forbid, are being abused; we are outraged! and rightly so. And we press charges with authorities to cease the harm and remove the offender from the job

When we visit the cemeteries and burial places of our grandparents or other ancestors; we are in a sense--visiting them in their final home.

Shouldn't we get just as upset to find that their final resting place has been abused, vandalized or removed all together; or worse still allowed to fade into nothing? In my mind, to violate a grave/gravestone, that is possibly the final insult available to a person. Others can no longer harm the body, but they can and do inflict damage to the stones, graves and entire cemeteries.

In being a mainly rural area, many of the Sweet Owen area cemeteries are in isolated areas or areas that are just ripe for developers looking for new avenues. Below are listings of cemeteries found in our areas to be in 1)victims of vandals; 2) in desperate need of repair; or 3) Sadly no longer there.
